Diamond Visionics Celebrates Its 20th Anniversary

Vestal, NY – March 7, 2016 – Vestal‐based Diamond Visionics, a leading provider of cutting‐edge 3D visualization and image generation products and services, is celebrating its 20th anniversary of operations this month.  Two decades of work by our dedicated employees have transformed the modeling and simulation industry to where the best pilots and soldiers in the world train using Diamond Visionics products.

With over twenty years of experience at Singer‐Link, David P. Gdovin and David L. Peters founded Diamond Visionics in 1996. Initial plans called for creating surgical simulation technology for the medical industry, but the rendering technology was quickly repurposed by the U.S. Army to generate the simulation industry’s first dynamic terrain. The success of this  program and others resulted in Diamond Visionics receiving the Small Business Administration’s Tibbetts Award and began a long series of SBIR (Small Business Innovative Research) grants from the Army, Navy, and Air Force, the majority of which focused on image generation.

Today Diamond Visionics has a family of render‐from‐source products for military and commercial out‐the‐window (OTW), sensor (NVG, EO, FLIR) and radar. The GenesisRTX  dynamic construction engine procedurally builds 3D scenes directly from Geographic Information Systems (GIS) source data and eliminates the need for costly and time‐consuming off‐line database generation.

Peters (CTO Retired) to take pause and reflect back on starting the company and how Diamond Visionics has grown over the past 20 years. “I  have been a part of computer graphics image generation for flight simulation since the 1970s.  When we started Diamond Visionics 20 years ago, we were on the ground floor of PC‐based  image generation with the user in the loop, and I have found it an exciting road to the phenomenal scenes being generated today. Our friends and users in the industry have allowed us to gather an incredible team and we look forward with joy and excitement for the next 20 years”, said Peters.

Diamond Visionics GenesisRTX Visual System is installed into Swansea University’s MP-521 Simulator Upgrade

BAE Systems selects Diamond Visionics GenesisIG for Steinmetz II Lab Upgrade

Tim Woodard of Diamond Visionics to speak at GTC Conference

Diamond Visionics’ announces that Tim Woodard has been chosen to speak at this year’s GPU Technology Conference (GTC) at the San Jose McEnery Convention Center, in San Jose, California.  Mr. Woodard will be speaking at 3 PM, March 18th.

Tim Woodard has published and presented previously at GTC, I/ITSEC, IMAGE, ASQ, and ITEC conferences. Mr. Woodard’s speech, “GPU-Based Scene Generation for Flight Simulation” is about the work he has done with NVIDIA on leveraging modern GPU capabilities; it is now possible to greatly increase both performance and fidelity by orders of magnitude when compared to traditional scene-graph approaches.  Furthermore, both significant consolidation of hardware and distributed rendering are now possible, greatly simplifying large-scale simulator facility design and maintenance. This modern GPU-based approach is being utilized to provide high-quality training for today’s pilots.

Mr. Tim Woodard is the Chief Technology Officer at Diamond Visionics, with over 18 years of experience specializing in the design and development of software architectures for real-time PC-based image generation using Agile development processes, advanced C++, and modern OpenGL techniques.
